Who Can Apply and Eligibility Criteria

The 12-months-rule (applies only to Asian Nationals)

Any TG 1 or TG2 applicant who by time of submitting the application has, within the past 5 years, been a resident or has carried out his/her main activity for more than 12 months in the European Union or a country on a road to membership to the EU, will not be considered eligible for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

  • This 12 months rule does not apply to TG 3 applicants.

TG1

Undergraduate

Enrolled in an undergraduate university course at a partner university for the complete duration of the mobility (completed at least the first year)

Master

Enrolled in a master course at a partner university

Enrolled in a master course at a partner university or employed by a partner university (for countries which does not have masters programmes).

Doctorate

Enrolled in a doctorate course at a partner university

Enrolled in a doctorate course at a partner university or employed by a partner university (for countries which does not have PhD programmes).

Post-Doctorate

Must have obtained a doctorate degree and must be employed by a partner university

Staff

Must be working as academic or administrative staff at a partner university

Master

Enrolled in a master course at a non-partner university

Holding an undergraduate degree at the time of mobility from any university of the targeted countries (for countries which does not have masters programmes).

Doctorate

Enrolled in a doctorate course at a non-partner university in one of the targeted countries

Holding an master degree at the time of mobility from any university of the targeted countries (for countries which does not have PhDs programmes).

Post-Doctorate

Must have obtained a doctorate degree from any university of the targeted countries

Staff

Must be working as academic or administrative staff at any institution of the targeted countries

(Asian Nationals only) For candidates in a vulnerable situation. 
Proof of Vulnerability is required.

Master

Enrolled in a master course at a partner- or  non-partner university

candidates must have obtained an undergraduate university degree or must have completed 3 years of university studies (for countries which does not have masters programmes).

Doctorate

Enrolled in a doctorate course at a partner- or non-partner university

Holding an master degree at the time of mobility (for countries which does not have PhDs programmes).

 

Before applying, applicants are asked to inform themselves about:

  • the range of study programmes offered at the host universities;

  • the general information guideline

  • language requirements at the host universities;

  • any specific admission requirements;

  • information (study programmes, course catalogue, ECTS etc.) provided at the websites of the individual host universities.

Candidates for all levels may apply for different host universities with priority. In addition to filling in the online application (main data, information about, TG, home and host university, language skills, motivation letter, intended period of mobility), applicants will need to upload the following documents:

Undergraduate:

  • study plan

  • CV (format)

  • Copy of passport or other official identification proof (optional but must submit after selection)

  • Recommendation letters (optional but must submit after selection)

  • Language certificates for the language of instruction at Host University. All applicants need to check the general information sheet of the respective host university on the SmartLink website and upload the required language certificates which are mentioned in the general information sheet

  • Certificates and transcripts of record

  • Document indicating the candidate belongs to Target Group 3 (only for students applying in Target Group 3)

Master students:

  • study plan

  • CV (format)

  • Document indicating the candidate belongs to Target Group 3 (only for post-doctorates applying for Target Group 3)

Academic and administrative staff:

  • Research/teaching/training proposal

  • CV (format)

  • Copy of passport or other official identification proof

  • Language certificates for the language of instruction at Host University. All applicants need to check the general information sheet of the respective host university on the SmartLink website and upload the required language certificates which are mentioned in the general information sheet. For Staff candidates language certificates are welcome but may not be mandatory.

  • Letter of interest: This letter from the host university is specifying their academic/administrative interest in hosting the applicant: Applicants need to download the template of the letter of interest and upload a filled-in and signed letter of interest.

  • Academic record, list of publications (applicable for academic staff)

  • Description of work experience (applicable for administrative staff)

The applicant will be responsible for uploading all obligatory documents.

Applicants will be requested to upload scanned versions of all original documents (transcripts of record, diploma, degree certificates, language certificates etc.). In addition, scanned versions of certified translations/official translations of all these documents into English or the language of the host country are obligatory. All selected scholars will be advised to check with their host universities if there are specific deadlines for submitting original documents. Admission criteria of all partner institutions in the consortium have to be respected. All applicants will need to check the general information sheet of the respective host university.

Language requirements vary according to the particular programme and Host University. Please consult your Host University to know more about the language criteria and submit your application accordingly.

Please note missing documents will make the evaluation of an application impossible and will result in that application being unsuccessful.
